Exhibitions

Thank you to all who visited us at NEMEX Sustainability Live Exhibition Birminham NEC. Our ECO-MAX Voltage Optimisers will be making you some big savings in the near future!

Funding

In a climate where confidence is low, and CAPEX hard to find, GW Energy are helping many companies survive. Particularly popular are zero cost options for SMEs using loans via the Carbon Trust. Not only do these cover the full cost of projects, and spread payments out so that lighting energy saving projects are cash positive from day 1, but the full cost is also tax deductable under the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme. For companies making a loss the taxman will make a cash payment! We have many funding and payment options. Click here for more info on grants and loans.

ECO-MAX Lighting Optimisers

We realise energy savings by ensuring your lighting is only used when necessary, and, when it is in use, that its only illuminated to the required or necessary light levels. We achieve this using the ECO-MAX centralised lighting control system, and uniquely combining some or all of its bespoke timed or presence on-off lighting controls, together with staged dimming of lighting, to time, presence, or fully daylight linked to available natural daylight. Metering can also be incorporated as necessary for a particular installation scenario or customer requirement. The ECO-MAX range of Lighting Optimisers are generally aimed at industrial and commercial discharge and fluorescent lighting systems where savings of around 25-40% are typical common without turning lights off.

Greater savings up to 70% are common where natural daylight is available and lights can be automatically dimmed or even turned off at times. The ECO-MAX lighting optimizer can combine numerous controls:

  • Daylight linking light controls – with sensors in place, daylight can be harvested, and lights automatically switched off or dimmed down to the minimum level required. Daylight levels can be linked to levels of voltage optimisation.
  • Zoning light controls – 1 control system can control up to 4 zones
  • Switching light controls – e.g. manual, timed switching – fully programmable
  • Occupancy detection – this type of lighting control is only applicable to certain types of lamps.

The ECO-MAX range of lighting optimisers

The ECO-MAX’s come in a full range of models and sizes to suit any size lighting system from a 1 Phase 6A to a 3 phase 250A.

ECO-MAX FDIM

The ECO-MAX ( F ) is the standard lighting optimiser which is configured to give a predetermined fixed reduction in power consumption of around 20-40%. The unit has an integral ignition sequence, and can be controlled externally from manual or timed switches, daylight or motion detectors or sensors. It can be switched in and out of OFF, reduced and full power, without breaking main supply, or if necessary without turning lights off.

ECO-MAX SDIM

The ECO-MAX ( S ) is the staged lighting optimiser which is configured to give a staged reduction in power consumption of around 20-50%. The unit has an integral ignition sequence, and can be controlled externally from manual or timed switches, daylight or motion detectors or sensors. It can be switched in and out of OFF, through various stages of reduced, to full power, without breaking main supply, or if necessary, without turning lights off.

Example

Many buildings working 24hrs, keep the lights on and are burning full power 24/7, even with plenty of windows or skylights providing ample natural daylight. The ECO-MAX system will tailor the power that the lights consume, in relation to the natural daylight available, even turning them off partially or totally during the brightest periods and if the operational requirements allow. Not all environments and production activities like to have lighting turned off, particularly when using slow reacting discharge lighting such as SON or Metal Halide. In these cases, the ECO-MAX will simply reduce the power being consumed (and paid for) in stages as more daylight is available, so the maximum saving possible is achieved, but without turning the lights off.

N.B. You may have noticed 2 spellings for optimization! Although we believe the correct spelling in the UK is optimisation with an "S", it seems that optimization with a “Z” is now more common! We blame Microsoft and a spell checker that always defaults to the US dictionary.

Carbon Trust Voltage Management Guide .....after a long time in consultation, GWE are happy to announce that the Carbon Trust have now released their Technology Guide for Voltage Management. It seems they have taken on board all of the concerns that GWE have had with the implementation of some other Voltage Optimisation systems, and are recommending a best practice guide for selection and implementation of Voltage Management for Energy Savings, which is directly in line with all the methods we have employed over the years with ECO-MAX.

You can download a copy of the guide CTG045 from the Carbon Trust Website here
